Subbing

I'm currently a substitute teacher for charter school in los angeles. though the pay could be better, but beggars can't be choosers after all. Almost everyday, I meet new students and new staff at different school. It's a great experience to see different lesson plans, classroom management skills, students at different age / stage of development, and district/ schools before I plan to be a full time permanent teacher.
Hopefully, I can get myself into LAUSD and teach there real soon.
At first, it was difficult to be a substitute teacher. Not because the skills and knowledge to teach, but it's the nature of the job. Students treat you like a "nobody" and they have almost no respect for substitute teacher. At the same time, getting attention from students and having to work requires a certain leadership and authority skill because a substitute never knew them.

I've learn so much from students in the past few weeks. My teaching and classroom management skills appear to be better than before. I know this for sure because when I return to a school I've sub before, the kids don't want to mess around with me anymore. Instead, they have certain respect for me and some want to stick with me in the class instead of going to lunch or recess.

Until next time..

prior to my previous post, this blog has been sleeping for more than three months. i suppose this is a good opportunity to upload some crappy phone photos up. among a few thousand, i decided to post around 16 for old time's sake.

drinking with my best friend at wurstkuche on a random day.

for a while, i was hooked on tea. so for a good few months, i took andy out to many places that have "ok" tea. i.e. intelligensia, tastea.
now, i just buy regular ice tea at starbucks for my daily dose of energy

quiet date a long time ago at butterfly beach. mixed feelings and mixed thoughts. all that is over now.

street snaps ; sunset / la brea

today undefeated dropped those air max 90 hyperfuse "cork" along with air max 90 infrared "patch". so chris and i decided to head out there early and pick them up. along the way, i managed to snap some pictures and enjoy the views.

later during the day, we got stuck in traffic for about 3 hours due to a parade that occured right after we left supreme. however long we waited, it was still a good day thanks to kendrick lamar's - to pimp a butterfly and many other songs haha.

supreme ss15 / kith - pop up store

Do you remember when was the last time you spent an entire day doing nothing? Last Thursday was that kind of day for me. My friend David and I waited in Supreme's line for their Spring/Summer 2015 drop for almost 13 hours long. Guess what, we went home empty handed.

But on Friday we returned back at 6 am only to see less than 10 people ahead of us. Except for the black Neil Young Tee, everything was still available. I don't understand or know what the fuss is all about regarding Thursday's drop. Pretty sure half of these people lining up don't even know who Neil Young is ( I didn't - until I recognize his music ). Ironically enough, I bought a Neil Young tee and it will probably just sleep there in the closet for years to come...

After getting what we want at supreme, we went to Kith's pop-up store. And here we go again, the line wrapped around the block. Is it time to give up with this chapter and flip the page to move on into a new chapter in life? That question remains to be pondered, haha.

With that line being there, David and I spent pretty much all day at venice beach then come back for the line to die out to get some shoes in the afternoon.

That's all folks - see you next time

LACMA

Earlier this morning I finished the RICA exam. It took me approximately 5 hours, from 8:00 - 12-1 ish. It was a little too long staring at the computer screen reading prompts, answering multiple choice questions, and type short answers. The process was aggravating because of hunger and thirst. So immediately after the test, I stop by in-and-out and grab a 3x3 burger animal style and a coke to satisfy this craving (Yes!)

Not too soon after that, I got an invitation to go to LACMA with ban thanh nien. Today is a free entrance day for everyone. Food trucks lined up and people are literatlly everywhere like colonies of ants walking around. Traffic was insane and finding parking (despite having a handicap sign) took me a good 30 minutes. With all that being said, I found parking and meet up with ban thanh nien hang out with them.

I don't know what is it about art but I'm not impress with it. Maybe I'm colorblind? Maybe it takes training to understand art? I don't know..

It was a good day
